Narrative:
Time was about XA30 and the tower was closed until XA45. We taxied out and broadcasted our intentions on CTAF 118.70 to hold short of runway 35 at taxiway B. We waited as several aircraft took off and landed on runway 35. Seeing the runway was clear, we broadcasted on 118.7 our intentions to back taxi down runway 35 and do a 180 degree turn and take off. We started to taxi on the runway when we noticed a landing light coming toward us. We immediately discontinued our taxi and stopped. We shouted on 118.7 for the other aircraft to abort takeoff with no success. Our aircraft was partially on runway 35 and the taxiway B. The other aircraft lifted off about 3000 ft before reaching us and climbed about 400 ft above us when he crossed overhead. We then continued down the runway and exited at end. Now the tower was open and handled normal traffic flow. Augusta departure questioned us about what happened and asked to contact them by telephone.

Title: AN MD88 AFTER ADVISING INTENTIONS ON CTAF TO BACK TAXI ON A RWY THE FLC ENCOUNTERED A LIGHT SINGLE ENG ACFT ON TKOF WHICH CLRED BY 3000 FT HORIZ AND 400 FT VERT.
Narrative: TIME WAS ABOUT XA30 AND THE TWR WAS CLOSED UNTIL XA45. WE TAXIED OUT AND BROADCASTED OUR INTENTIONS ON CTAF 118.70 TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35 AT TXWY B. WE WAITED AS SEVERAL ACFT TOOK OFF AND LANDED ON RWY 35. SEEING THE RWY WAS CLR, WE BROADCASTED ON 118.7 OUR INTENTIONS TO BACK TAXI DOWN RWY 35 AND DO A 180 DEG TURN AND TAKE OFF. WE STARTED TO TAXI ON THE RWY WHEN WE NOTICED A LNDG LIGHT COMING TOWARD US. WE IMMEDIATELY DISCONTINUED OUR TAXI AND STOPPED. WE SHOUTED ON 118.7 FOR THE OTHER ACFT TO ABORT TKOF WITH NO SUCCESS. OUR ACFT WAS PARTIALLY ON RWY 35 AND THE TXWY B. THE OTHER ACFT LIFTED OFF ABOUT 3000 FT BEFORE REACHING US AND CLBED ABOUT 400 FT ABOVE US WHEN HE CROSSED OVERHEAD. WE THEN CONTINUED DOWN THE RWY AND EXITED AT END. NOW THE TWR WAS OPEN AND HANDLED NORMAL TFC FLOW. AUGUSTA DEP QUESTIONED US ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND ASKED TO CONTACT THEM BY TELEPHONE.
