Narrative:
On apr/xa/99 I received the mco airport ATIS for departure at approximately XA00 local. The ATIS advised that runway 36 and runway 35 were in use for departure and that runway 36L was closed. The ground controller was very busy. I 'understood' that I was cleared to taxi to runway 36R for departure from the west cargo ramp via intersection A1. I proceeded to runway 36L and noticed barricades just south of intersection A1 on runway 36L. About this time I noticed the aircraft in front of me proceeding to begin takeoff roll on runway 36L. This aircraft was north of intersection A1 and no danger of collision existed. As I had crossed the yellow line by this time and was on the edge of the runway, I immediately reversed course and taxied into intersection A1 from which I came. I switched to tower frequency and was cleared to depart runway 36L.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ATX FREIGHTER PLT TAXIED ACROSS THE HOLD LINE OF THE ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT AUTH.
Narrative: ON APR/XA/99 I RECEIVED THE MCO ARPT ATIS FOR DEP AT APPROX XA00 LCL. THE ATIS ADVISED THAT RWY 36 AND RWY 35 WERE IN USE FOR DEP AND THAT RWY 36L WAS CLOSED. THE GND CTLR WAS VERY BUSY. I 'UNDERSTOOD' THAT I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 36R FOR DEP FROM THE W CARGO RAMP VIA INTXN A1. I PROCEEDED TO RWY 36L AND NOTICED BARRICADES JUST S OF INTXN A1 ON RWY 36L. ABOUT THIS TIME I NOTICED THE ACFT IN FRONT OF ME PROCEEDING TO BEGIN TKOF ROLL ON RWY 36L. THIS ACFT WAS N OF INTXN A1 AND NO DANGER OF COLLISION EXISTED. AS I HAD CROSSED THE YELLOW LINE BY THIS TIME AND WAS ON THE EDGE OF THE RWY, I IMMEDIATELY REVERSED COURSE AND TAXIED INTO INTXN A1 FROM WHICH I CAME. I SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ AND WAS CLRED TO DEPART RWY 36L.
