Narrative:

On preflight, damaged uld container with a small tear on top found prior to loading. This was during an FAA ramp check. The container was also on the previous flight, east midlands, united kingdom to paris, france, charles de gaulle. However, the damage was not noticed on the preflight by my flight engineer. It is possible it was noticed during loading or unloading. The situation was completely rectified prior to departing paris, france, charles de gaulle by unloading the contents and reloading them into another container prior to departure. It is possible that it was damaged during the loading or unloading of the other flight. Our ground handling manual does not permit the carriage of a damaged uld container in the manner that this one was damaged with damage on top.
