Narrative:
Due to several acquisitions and mergers, air carrier presently operates several configns of the B727. On the JT8 engine we presently have, there is the kidde and systron-donner fire detection loops. The kidde fire detection system was installed on the new engine and should have been xferred to the systron-donner system. The conversion was not fully completed due to confusion over the job instruction card. The confusion was a result of an overage of not applicable job instruction cards routinely issued as a result of several different engine configns and no indication or reference available on the job form as to the type of buildup confign on the new engine to be installed. Had there been some kind of simplification of engine system types or better clarification on the job instruction card, job form, or the preflight handbook, this could be avoided.
