Narrative:
On apr/xa/99, I was assigned to work on aircraft xyz to unclog a mid galley drain. I went to work on the aircraft with another more experienced mechanic. Since we had multiple write-ups I tried to unclog the drain but it would only drain slowly so I deferred the drain. I asked the other mechanic how should I defer it. On his advice, I deferred it per MEL xx-zz since I am new on line maintenance. I took his advice and today I received this letter. FAA wxyz made me realize I made a mistake.

Title: A B757 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A GALLEY DRAIN DEFERRED AS INOP PER THE MEL BUT WITH NO SPECIAL PROCS ACCOMPLISHED.
Narrative: ON APR/XA/99, I WAS ASSIGNED TO WORK ON ACFT XYZ TO UNCLOG A MID GALLEY DRAIN. I WENT TO WORK ON THE ACFT WITH ANOTHER MORE EXPERIENCED MECH. SINCE WE HAD MULTIPLE WRITE-UPS I TRIED TO UNCLOG THE DRAIN BUT IT WOULD ONLY DRAIN SLOWLY SO I DEFERRED THE DRAIN. I ASKED THE OTHER MECH HOW SHOULD I DEFER IT. ON HIS ADVICE, I DEFERRED IT PER MEL XX-ZZ SINCE I AM NEW ON LINE MAINT. I TOOK HIS ADVICE AND TODAY I RECEIVED THIS LETTER. FAA WXYZ MADE ME REALIZE I MADE A MISTAKE.
