Narrative:

On apr/xa/99 we took off from ZZZ, us, on a flight to phl. On climb out our company informed us we forgot our 'deferred discrepancy log.' we returned to the field. Our mechanic took the book off of the airplane, prior, to clear a squawk, which was 3 scratches reported by the cargo door. We forgot he had the book.
