Narrative:
The first officer adjusted the squelch and volume of the radio as he believed the frequency was too quiet. The first officer asked the controller if he was still talking to us. The controller asked us where we had been. We advised him that we had been monitoring the frequency. The controller asked us for our company phone number, which we gave. We then asked the controller if there was a problem and he advised that he had to divert oncoming traffic around us.
