Narrative:
En route to maryville meml (evu), I found myself on top of an overcast layer (VFR). I filed an IFR flight plan from lamoni VOR to evu with the intention of descending IFR through the clouds and canceling once I reached cloud base. However, upon looking at the approach plates for evu I discovered that the only available approachs were an NDB/GPS and a VOR/DME. My aircraft was not equipped with an ADF, GPS, or DME. I had already accepted clearance and was now IMC and cleared for any approach! I did not tell the controller of my situation and luckily reached VMC conditions while en route to the IAF. I should have looked at the plates first!
