Narrative:
Student on second solo. Complied with ATC request to make short approach. Added last flaps to save landing rather than go around. Noted airspeed low, pushed forward. Airplane bounced, caught propeller on last (third) bounce. Student terminated flight, taxied to FBO, completed shutdown list, reported to FBO. Student and instructor have met with safety counselor to discuss occurrence. Per student's own statement that evening, should have told them (ATC) that we would extend downwind and should have gone around rather than try to salvage landing. Student did recognize there was a problem and did not take off again, maintained control well enough to contain damage -- no cartwheel, wingtips, etc. Maintained cool and judgement to best of experience and abilities. Immediately terminated flight, reported the problem, accepted responsibility, and evaluated the chain of events.
