Narrative:
ZNY issued a clearance to cross 10 NM west of lancaster at 12000 ft. The first officer was flying and entered the restr in the FMC as 10 NM east of lancaster at 12000 ft. I did not verify the FMC entry. The controller issued a vector off course when she realized that we would not make the restr.

Title: FO OF A B737-400 MISPROGRAMMED THE FMC WITH THE WRONG DIRECTION FROM THE XING RESTR RESULTING IN NOT MEETING A XING RESTR.
Narrative: ZNY ISSUED A CLRNC TO CROSS 10 NM W OF LANCASTER AT 12000 FT. THE FO WAS FLYING AND ENTERED THE RESTR IN THE FMC AS 10 NM E OF LANCASTER AT 12000 FT. I DID NOT VERIFY THE FMC ENTRY. THE CTLR ISSUED A VECTOR OFF COURSE WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT WE WOULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR.
