Narrative:
I decided to take a pleasure flight down the river but thought that there might be some restrs. I called flight service at XA35 and asked about any NOTAMS for the river. The specialist asked when I was proposing to fly the river and I told him I would take off right away after the call. He read through the NOTAMS for a minute and then told me that there were temporary flight restrs for VFR between XB45 and XC45 and again between XE00 and XF00. I felt I could be out of the area before XB45 so I took off at approximately XA55 and flew to the bridge and down the river with the usual reports on CTAF along the way. I proceeded north on the river announcing my position. At approximately XB30 and 2 mi south of the bridge, one of the helicopter controllers for the river heard me report and told me that there was a restr on VFR flight from XB00 to XC00 and that I should make a 180 degree turn. I told him that flight service had told me that the restr was from XB45 to XC45. Feeling that I had the correct information I proceeded north on the river and exited the area before XB45. Upon reaching home I checked the NOTAMS for the area on duat and found that the restr was indeed for XB00 to XC00 as the controller had said. The FSS specialist had given me times for the next day's restrs. There were no other aircraft visible on the flight so I don't think I disrupted anything but I suppose if there were a military event it could have been diverted without my knowing. I'm not sure if there is any way to check on the information given by a FSS specialist without going through another source such as duat. Sitting in the plane on the ramp doesn't give me that option. In future flts, when restrs are suspected I will try to xchk the NOTAMS.

Title: PLT RECEIVES INCORRECT NOTAM FROM FSS SPECIALIST FOR SIGHTSEEING FLT AND ENTERED AIRSPACE RESTR BY NOTAM ACTUALLY IN FORCE.
Narrative: I DECIDED TO TAKE A PLEASURE FLT DOWN THE RIVER BUT THOUGHT THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME RESTRS. I CALLED FLT SVC AT XA35 AND ASKED ABOUT ANY NOTAMS FOR THE RIVER. THE SPECIALIST ASKED WHEN I WAS PROPOSING TO FLY THE RIVER AND I TOLD HIM I WOULD TAKE OFF RIGHT AWAY AFTER THE CALL. HE READ THROUGH THE NOTAMS FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE TEMPORARY FLT RESTRS FOR VFR BTWN XB45 AND XC45 AND AGAIN BTWN XE00 AND XF00. I FELT I COULD BE OUT OF THE AREA BEFORE XB45 SO I TOOK OFF AT APPROX XA55 AND FLEW TO THE BRIDGE AND DOWN THE RIVER WITH THE USUAL RPTS ON CTAF ALONG THE WAY. I PROCEEDED N ON THE RIVER ANNOUNCING MY POS. AT APPROX XB30 AND 2 MI S OF THE BRIDGE, ONE OF THE HELI CTLRS FOR THE RIVER HEARD ME RPT AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RESTR ON VFR FLT FROM XB00 TO XC00 AND THAT I SHOULD MAKE A 180 DEG TURN. I TOLD HIM THAT FLT SVC HAD TOLD ME THAT THE RESTR WAS FROM XB45 TO XC45. FEELING THAT I HAD THE CORRECT INFO I PROCEEDED N ON THE RIVER AND EXITED THE AREA BEFORE XB45. UPON REACHING HOME I CHKED THE NOTAMS FOR THE AREA ON DUAT AND FOUND THAT THE RESTR WAS INDEED FOR XB00 TO XC00 AS THE CTLR HAD SAID. THE FSS SPECIALIST HAD GIVEN ME TIMES FOR THE NEXT DAY'S RESTRS. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT VISIBLE ON THE FLT SO I DON'T THINK I DISRUPTED ANYTHING BUT I SUPPOSE IF THERE WERE A MIL EVENT IT COULD HAVE BEEN DIVERTED WITHOUT MY KNOWING. I'M NOT SURE IF THERE IS ANY WAY TO CHK ON THE INFO GIVEN BY A FSS SPECIALIST WITHOUT GOING THROUGH ANOTHER SOURCE SUCH AS DUAT. SITTING IN THE PLANE ON THE RAMP DOESN'T GIVE ME THAT OPTION. IN FUTURE FLTS, WHEN RESTRS ARE SUSPECTED I WILL TRY TO XCHK THE NOTAMS.
