Narrative:
Location: dfw. During cockpit preflight, discovered #3 engine N2 gauge to have different red line limit from #1-2 engine. Suspected gauge might be from dash 10 and this aircraft, being a dash 30, called maintenance to change. Upon removing gauge discovered it was in fact off of dash 10 as indicated clearly by stencil on gauge, and was amazed to see sticker on gauge saying 'use for simulator only -- not for use on aircraft.' this gauge clearly should not have been put on this aircraft!
