Narrative:

En route, the #1 flight attendant opened the cockpit door and advised there was smoke and that she could not identify the source. At XA35Z we advised ATC that we would be diverting to fsd, and declared an emergency. During the descent we turned off the galley power. First officer prepared for landing (checklist, approach setup, notified dispatch via ACARS) while I continued to fly/descend on vectors for the landing. I heard later that the flight attendants had brought halon bottles to the galley area, pulled out all galley circuit breakers, were searching for the source of the fire and had prepared to don the pbe. They also checked the cabin for landing. 2 mins before landing I called the #1 flight attendant to ask about condition of cabin and verify they were ready to land. They were, and the smoke had dissipated. Based on this information, I determined not to evacuate/evacuation immediately after landing. Visual approach and landing normal. Landing was at XA44Z. We stopped on the taxiway and determined smoke in cabin did not warrant an evacuate/evacuation.

Title: FK100 FLC DECLARES AN EMER AFTER LEARNING OF SMOKE IN CABIN.

Narrative: ENRTE, THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT OPENED THE COCKPIT DOOR AND ADVISED THERE WAS SMOKE AND THAT SHE COULD NOT IDENT THE SOURCE. AT XA35Z WE ADVISED ATC THAT WE WOULD BE DIVERTING TO FSD, AND DECLARED AN EMER. DURING THE DSCNT WE TURNED OFF THE GALLEY PWR. FO PREPARED FOR LNDG (CHKLIST, APCH SETUP, NOTIFIED DISPATCH VIA ACARS) WHILE I CONTINUED TO FLY/DSND ON VECTORS FOR THE LNDG. I HEARD LATER THAT THE FLT ATTENDANTS HAD BROUGHT HALON BOTTLES TO THE GALLEY AREA, PULLED OUT ALL GALLEY CIRCUIT BREAKERS, WERE SEARCHING FOR THE SOURCE OF THE FIRE AND HAD PREPARED TO DON THE PBE. THEY ALSO CHKED THE CABIN FOR LNDG. 2 MINS BEFORE LNDG I CALLED THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT TO ASK ABOUT CONDITION OF CABIN AND VERIFY THEY WERE READY TO LAND. THEY WERE, AND THE SMOKE HAD DISSIPATED. BASED ON THIS INFO, I DETERMINED NOT TO EVAC IMMEDIATELY AFTER LNDG. VISUAL APCH AND LNDG NORMAL. LNDG WAS AT XA44Z. WE STOPPED ON THE TXWY AND DETERMINED SMOKE IN CABIN DID NOT WARRANT AN EVAC.
