Primary Problem | Flight Crew Human Performance |
Narrative:
Navigation receivers were set for an east landing in accordance with current ATIS at iah. While being vectored by approach control, we were told it would be an ILS runway 27 arrival. Flight crew failed to properly retune all navigation radios and was unable to intercept the ILS course initially. We shortly discovered the problem, fixed it, and completed the approach and landing. Proper use of 'approach checklist' would have precluded this mishap.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR CREW ATTEMPTS TO FLY APCH WITH RADIOS SET FOR RWY BROADCAST ON ATIS INSTEAD OF RWY ASSIGNED BY CTLR. DISCOVERED ERROR. APCH COMPLETED NORMALLY.
Narrative: NAV RECEIVERS WERE SET FOR AN E LNDG IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT ATIS AT IAH. WHILE BEING VECTORED BY APCH CTL, WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE AN ILS RWY 27 ARR. FLC FAILED TO PROPERLY RETUNE ALL NAV RADIOS AND WAS UNABLE TO INTERCEPT THE ILS COURSE INITIALLY. WE SHORTLY DISCOVERED THE PROB, FIXED IT, AND COMPLETED THE APCH AND LNDG. PROPER USE OF 'APCH CHKLIST' WOULD HAVE PRECLUDED THIS MISHAP.
