Narrative:
I replaced a WX radar transceiver due to a PIREP for WX radar spoking. I did a ground check of the system by putting it in the test mode and checking the test pattern, which is the check for some of our fleet. After returning to the shop, I pulled the maintenance manual reference and found that I did not do the required test, which includes activating the WX radar and looking for returns. (I might add the requirements for safety, the maintenance manual operations check cannot be accomplished with the aircraft at the gate.) from now on I will read the maintenance manual before accomplishing the work and will comply with the ert recommendations.
