Narrative:
I taxied our DC10-10 via the violet route to hold in the pad short of taxiway north on taxiway left, in accordance with ground control clearance, to await ATC release to ord. We were told to expect departure on runway 5L, which we had planned for. The pad was barely big enough for a dc-10 but the route along taxiway K allowed me to know that I was the only widebody transport aircraft moving in that direction at the time and I accepted the clearance to hold there. Ground told us taxi to and hold short of runway 5R for takeoff on runway 5L, and to switch to tower. Because of the narrow taxiway, I couldn't position the DC10 entirely perpendicular to the runway. I was aware of an air carrier X rj inside the marker with clearance to land on runway 5R and an air carrier X propeller aircraft in position for takeoff on runway 5L. I did not know if air carrier Y had been given takeoff clearance before we switched to tower, but assumed that when tower cleared us to taxi across runway 5R and 'position and hold runway 5L' first officer repeated clearance and called for 'final' items on checklist. Aware of the approaching aircraft, I added sufficient power to complete the turn and cross the runway expeditiously. With the nose of my aircraft about to cross the near runway edge line on runway 5R and my aircraft accelerating, I noticed that aircraft Y had not begun takeoff. I transmitted 'is there enough room to hold short of runway 5R?' to get the tower's awareness of the situation developing. The tower transmitted 'hold short!' I had already crossed that line and was encroaching the runway, accelerating. My first officer said 'unable we're past the line' and I told my crew I couldn't stop, we're crossing. The tower transmitted 'stop' but my concern was clearing the runway before the approaching aircraft attempted to land. I knew I could accomplish that safely and not run into the aircraft Y if they didn't start their takeoff roll, but was not confident that the tower would issue a go around considering the recent xmissions indicating a lack of awareness of what was developing. Tower finally issued a go around to aircraft X and a clearance, or reclrnc to takeoff for aircraft Y. They commenced takeoff and we taxied into position and held, in accordance with last clearance we accepted. The next transmission to us was 'cleared to takeoff, heading XXX degrees,' without further dialogue. This statement will be forwarded to organization/air carrier's flight safety awareness program with recommended comments about cautions and procedures for widebody transport aircraft to be included in cle airport page in the flight operations manual.

Title: DISPUTED CLRNC FOR DC10 TO CROSS PARALLEL RWY AND HOLD SHORT CAUSES LNDG TFC TO GO AROUND AT CLE.
Narrative: I TAXIED OUR DC10-10 VIA THE VIOLET RTE TO HOLD IN THE PAD SHORT OF TXWY N ON TXWY L, IN ACCORDANCE WITH GND CTL CLRNC, TO AWAIT ATC RELEASE TO ORD. WE WERE TOLD TO EXPECT DEP ON RWY 5L, WHICH WE HAD PLANNED FOR. THE PAD WAS BARELY BIG ENOUGH FOR A DC-10 BUT THE RTE ALONG TXWY K ALLOWED ME TO KNOW THAT I WAS THE ONLY WDB ACFT MOVING IN THAT DIRECTION AT THE TIME AND I ACCEPTED THE CLRNC TO HOLD THERE. GND TOLD US TAXI TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5R FOR TKOF ON RWY 5L, AND TO SWITCH TO TWR. BECAUSE OF THE NARROW TXWY, I COULDN'T POS THE DC10 ENTIRELY PERPENDICULAR TO THE RWY. I WAS AWARE OF AN ACR X RJ INSIDE THE MARKER WITH CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 5R AND AN ACR X PROP ACFT IN POS FOR TKOF ON RWY 5L. I DID NOT KNOW IF ACR Y HAD BEEN GIVEN TKOF CLRNC BEFORE WE SWITCHED TO TWR, BUT ASSUMED THAT WHEN TWR CLRED US TO TAXI ACROSS RWY 5R AND 'POS AND HOLD RWY 5L' FO REPEATED CLRNC AND CALLED FOR 'FINAL' ITEMS ON CHKLIST. AWARE OF THE APCHING ACFT, I ADDED SUFFICIENT PWR TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND CROSS THE RWY EXPEDITIOUSLY. WITH THE NOSE OF MY ACFT ABOUT TO CROSS THE NEAR RWY EDGE LINE ON RWY 5R AND MY ACFT ACCELERATING, I NOTICED THAT ACFT Y HAD NOT BEGUN TKOF. I XMITTED 'IS THERE ENOUGH ROOM TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 5R?' TO GET THE TWR'S AWARENESS OF THE SIT DEVELOPING. THE TWR XMITTED 'HOLD SHORT!' I HAD ALREADY CROSSED THAT LINE AND WAS ENCROACHING THE RWY, ACCELERATING. MY FO SAID 'UNABLE WE'RE PAST THE LINE' AND I TOLD MY CREW I COULDN'T STOP, WE'RE XING. THE TWR XMITTED 'STOP' BUT MY CONCERN WAS CLRING THE RWY BEFORE THE APCHING ACFT ATTEMPTED TO LAND. I KNEW I COULD ACCOMPLISH THAT SAFELY AND NOT RUN INTO THE ACFT Y IF THEY DIDN'T START THEIR TKOF ROLL, BUT WAS NOT CONFIDENT THAT THE TWR WOULD ISSUE A GAR CONSIDERING THE RECENT XMISSIONS INDICATING A LACK OF AWARENESS OF WHAT WAS DEVELOPING. TWR FINALLY ISSUED A GAR TO ACFT X AND A CLRNC, OR RECLRNC TO TKOF FOR ACFT Y. THEY COMMENCED TKOF AND WE TAXIED INTO POS AND HELD, IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAST CLRNC WE ACCEPTED. THE NEXT XMISSION TO US WAS 'CLRED TO TKOF, HDG XXX DEGS,' WITHOUT FURTHER DIALOGUE. THIS STATEMENT WILL BE FORWARDED TO ORGANIZATION/ACR'S FLT SAFETY AWARENESS PROGRAM WITH RECOMMENDED COMMENTS ABOUT CAUTIONS AND PROCS FOR WDB ACFT TO BE INCLUDED IN CLE ARPT PAGE IN THE FLT OPS MANUAL.
