Narrative:
After takeoff we proceeded G-432 to targa. Passing targa requested direct owenz. Center replied they were unable due to traffic and for us to proceed via flight plan route (bergh, owenz, gxu, etc). Center then asked for our routing and we told them. They requested our estimate abeam flann. We constructed this point on our FMC (flann 242 degree radial at 26 NM) and relayed the estimate. At no time were we directed to proceed direct flann or to join G-432. About 150 NM past targa a ny oceanic supervisor idented himself and asked what our clearance was. After we relayed our original clearance, again, we were not told to proceed by any different route. After 5 mins, or so, the supervisor came back and told us that we were not flying our original clearance and that he was initiating an investigation into a possible pilot deviation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FLC FLYING ACROSS THE SOUTH ATLANTIC RPTS CONFUSION REGARDING THEIR ATC CLRNC.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF WE PROCEEDED G-432 TO TARGA. PASSING TARGA REQUESTED DIRECT OWENZ. CTR REPLIED THEY WERE UNABLE DUE TO TFC AND FOR US TO PROCEED VIA FLT PLAN RTE (BERGH, OWENZ, GXU, ETC). CTR THEN ASKED FOR OUR ROUTING AND WE TOLD THEM. THEY REQUESTED OUR ESTIMATE ABEAM FLANN. WE CONSTRUCTED THIS POINT ON OUR FMC (FLANN 242 DEG RADIAL AT 26 NM) AND RELAYED THE ESTIMATE. AT NO TIME WERE WE DIRECTED TO PROCEED DIRECT FLANN OR TO JOIN G-432. ABOUT 150 NM PAST TARGA A NY OCEANIC SUPVR IDENTED HIMSELF AND ASKED WHAT OUR CLRNC WAS. AFTER WE RELAYED OUR ORIGINAL CLRNC, AGAIN, WE WERE NOT TOLD TO PROCEED BY ANY DIFFERENT RTE. AFTER 5 MINS, OR SO, THE SUPVR CAME BACK AND TOLD US THAT WE WERE NOT FLYING OUR ORIGINAL CLRNC AND THAT HE WAS INITIATING AN INVESTIGATION INTO A POSSIBLE PLTDEV.
