Narrative:

During line check, check airman requested vectors that led us into a line of thunderstorm cells. ATC was giving everybody vectors, with 2000 ft step-climbs. Workload was high. I was more focused on avoiding WX and did not see check airman fail to arm the altitude select function. Check airman yelled at FL226 and I corrected back to FL220. Needless to say, the check airman busted me on my line check. Lesson learned: never trust the other pilot to do his job (arming the altitude select mode of the autoplt/FGS) -- especially a check airman. Always check and xchk.
