Narrative:
After receiving clearance for a visual approach to runway 34L at slc, we turned base from downwind. Approach control called out traffic at 12 O'clock landing runway 34R. We looked for and saw the traffic and turned final, lining up on runway 34L. At that time we received a TCASII warning on the previous traffic. We also thought we heard cleared to land. We landed without incident and discovered we had not contacted tower. After calling tower, we were told that we had been cleared to land and that there was no problem for not contacting tower.
