Narrative:
During initial taxi out, flight attendant reported smell of burning rubber in cabin. Flight engineer sent back and confirmed smoke in cabin. Packs gasper and galley turned off immediately. Shortly thereafter, ground evacuate/evacuation checklist was run right up to easy victor. At that point smoke seemed to dissipate. I waited a few more seconds and then made decision not to do emergency evacuate/evacuation, but to exit by aft stairs as the smoke was getting less. Flight attendants did a good job in assessing situation and getting me good information.
