Narrative:

After takeoff I called for gear up. First officer inadvertently put flap handle to full up (0 degree) position. A few seconds (2-3) later I sensed unusual noises (gear down rumble) and looked right and saw flaps indicators moving from 5 degrees to 2 degrees. At that time the stick shaker activated and the first officer immediately returned the flap handle to 15 degrees. The shaker stopped immediately and the flight proceeded normally. Fortunately we were in the ideal attitude and power (takeoff) for such a thing to happen, but we were lucky it was day, VFR and no obstacles. I feel the cause was the momentary lack of situational awareness by the first officer which can happen to any one at any time. I assume he was in his after landing flap handle movement mode which is the only time the flap handle is moved through several detents at once. Why this happens I don't know, but I know it does happen. To prevent a recurrence I'll try to notice the gear up selection when I'm flying and brief the other crew members to do the same thing, especially the flight engineer.

Title: B727 CREW RETRACTED FLAPS INSTEAD OF GEAR AFTER TKOF. STALL WARNING SOUNDED AND FLAPS RESTORED TO ORIGINAL POS.

Narrative: AFTER TKOF I CALLED FOR GEAR UP. FO INADVERTENTLY PUT FLAP HANDLE TO FULL UP (0 DEG) POS. A FEW SECONDS (2-3) LATER I SENSED UNUSUAL NOISES (GEAR DOWN RUMBLE) AND LOOKED R AND SAW FLAPS INDICATORS MOVING FROM 5 DEGS TO 2 DEGS. AT THAT TIME THE STICK SHAKER ACTIVATED AND THE FO IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE FLAP HANDLE TO 15 DEGS. THE SHAKER STOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND THE FLT PROCEEDED NORMALLY. FORTUNATELY WE WERE IN THE IDEAL ATTITUDE AND PWR (TKOF) FOR SUCH A THING TO HAPPEN, BUT WE WERE LUCKY IT WAS DAY, VFR AND NO OBSTACLES. I FEEL THE CAUSE WAS THE MOMENTARY LACK OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS BY THE FO WHICH CAN HAPPEN TO ANY ONE AT ANY TIME. I ASSUME HE WAS IN HIS AFTER LNDG FLAP HANDLE MOVEMENT MODE WHICH IS THE ONLY TIME THE FLAP HANDLE IS MOVED THROUGH SEVERAL DETENTS AT ONCE. WHY THIS HAPPENS I DON'T KNOW, BUT I KNOW IT DOES HAPPEN. TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE I'LL TRY TO NOTICE THE GEAR UP SELECTION WHEN I'M FLYING AND BRIEF THE OTHER CREW MEMBERS TO DO THE SAME THING, ESPECIALLY THE FE.
