Narrative:
The first officer relayed the wrong information to captain. Was instructed by first officer to taxi to 'wrong' runway. During taxi we taxied across an active runway. Was caught by tower and informed to do a 180 degree turn clear of runway. No traffic conflict occurred. First officer was new to company. Captain should have been in communication loop, not setting up navigation.
