Narrative:
The first time this was brought to my attention was on taxi out when flight attendant #4 came to me in the mid galley and said that he had just tried to pick up a plastic glass from the passenger in xh which had a small amount of mimosa still in it. Passenger grabbed the drink back from the tray and said 'are you crazy?' after takeoff and the seat belt sign had been turned off, I started to set up the mid galley with flight attendant #2, while the 4 flight attendants working business began the initial beverage service. Flight attendant #3 and flight attendant #_______ were working the copilot side of the aircraft. Shortly after the beverage service had begun, flight attendant #3 came to the galley and told flight attendant #1 and myself that the guy in xh had just touched her inappropriately. Flight attendant #3 was also in the galley at this time and flight attendant #1 told them if anything else happened she would go and talk to the passenger. Flight attendant #3 and I looked at the departure report to see if passenger was an upgraded passenger, it showed he was not an upgrade. Flight attendant #3 then said to me, 'this guy told me he was going to get plastered tonight,' and I said 'not on this flight you're not.' a few mins later, I took the tray set up cart to the first class galley in preparation for the meal service, as I passed seat xh, passenger patted me on the backside 3 times. I turned around and looked at him, the expression on his face looked very surprised and he immediately said 'I wasn't grabbing your fanny, I wasnt grabbing your fanny.' I responded to him by saying, 'well that's what it felt like to me.' he then responded by saying again, 'I wasn't grabbing your fanny. I wouldn't do that to anybody.' I crouched down by passenger seat, and he continued to talk loud and very fast for several seconds, I would say 15-20 seconds. I eventually interrupted and asked, what it was that he wanted. His response was 'I want a jack and coke in there, and a champagne in there' pointing to 2 glasses on the tray table,' and 'I'm hungry, I want something to eat.' I explained to passenger that we would be starting meal service shortly, and then said to him 'I'm sorry, but you're given me the impression that you have already had too much to drink, and we will not be serving you anymore alcohol on this flight.' passenger became even more agitated at this and said loudly, 'I want a F...ing drink,' I explained to passenger that I would be happy to get him a soft drink or some juice, again he said, 'I want a F...ing jack and coke and some champagne.' I repeated myself, stating, 'I am not serving you any more alcohol on this flight.' he responded with 'look I just want a drink. I'm sitting here, I'm looking after myself. I responded that I was looking after myself, and that if he leaves this flight drunk, then it is not only his problem, but also my responsibility and that was not going to happen. At this point he became very loud and abusive toward me yelling 'I want a F...ing drink.' I stood up and said 'passenger, I am not going to stand here and argue with you. There is no need for foul language.' his response was, 'im' not F...ing arguing.' I continued to say to him, that his behavior was getting to be threatening to me and he needed to stop, you will not be served anymore alcohol and that is the end of it. At this point, passenger became even louder yelling 'this is F...ing crazy, all I want is a 'F...ing drink. Just get me a F...ing drink.' I then leaned towards him and said 'look I have told you, I am not going to argue with you, if you are going to continue this, I will notify the captain and we will land the aircraft.' before I could finish my sentence he interrupted and said 'land the F...ing plane in boston and throw me off. I've always wanted to go to boston.' I replied 'if that's what you want we'll do it, but the police will meet the flight and you will be arrested.' again he said land the F...ing plane, I don't give a F...' I returned to the mid galley to report this to flight attendants #3 and #1 was in the cockpit talking to the captain about the problems we were having, by this time our service had been disrupted to a great extent, as flight attendant #1 was dealing with the problem I continued with my duties in the galley. Our service continued to suffer as I tried to set up for both sides of the business class cabin and not just my designated side. From what I remember at this point. Flight attendant #4 again spoke to passenger and received a similar response as I had. She decided to issue passenger with a passenger disturbance report. Flight attendant #1 told me that the captain said if anything else happened that he would divert and land the aircraft. The next incident I remember was flight attendant #4 asking passenger if he would like an appetizer. His response was 'F... Off, you F...ing bitch, I believe.' flight attendant #4 walked away towards the cockpit, but I don't know if she went into the cockpit. When she came back, she moved past passenger to the next row of seats, at this point he began yelling again at the top of his voice 'I want a F...ing drink, what the F...ing hell is going on, I then saw flight attendant #4 go over and talk to passenger, and he was with him for quite some time, probably 5 mins or so. We didn't know whether to start to run out main courses or not as it was possible we were going to divert, but word came back from the cockpit that again passenger would be given one more chance to calm down. We had delivered about half of the main courses in B zone, when I heard the sound of plates smashing. I looked down the aisle and saw a commotion around passenger's seat as I walked up the aisle I saw food all over the floor and was told passenger had thrown his pate from his table. I returned to the mid galley, came back and said start to put things away we are landing in bangor. I started to put things away in the galley and flight attendants #1 and #2 came to me and said we were going to put restraints on passenger. The 3 of us walked to passenger's seat and stood over him, he was still very loud swearing at crew and surrounding passenger alike. When he saw the restraints he started saying 'what are you going to do put the F...ing handcuffs on me, yea go on put them on.' at this he would hold his hands together and his arms out as if to let us put the restraints on him, but as soon as we tried to put them on he would separate his hand and begin to hit at us. Again he would say 'put the F...ing handcuffs on me and drop me off in boston.' a scuffle then broke out as flight attendants #4 and #1 and myself tried again to put the restraints on passenger. We struggled for quite some time. The restraints are very difficult to get started. Flight attendant #4 tried to hold down his arms while I tried to hold his hands together. We each had a restraint, but were struggling to get them around his wrists and get one fastened. It was at this time my thumb was pushed back by passenger and I sustained the injury. I was later taken to the hospital in bangor. We eventually managed to get one of the restraints around passenger's wrists and restrain his hands, with the help of a male passenger holding passenger in a headlock. At this point passenger was in his seat with his seat belt fastened, still yelling and swearing at everyone and everything. I returned to my galley to continue to put things away for landing. Then one of the flight attendants came rushing into the galley and said you need to get out there, that guy just hit flight attendant #4. I hurried out to where there was a group of male passenger standing over passenger, who was on the floor in front of seats xj and xh. The passenger were very irritated with passenger by this time and were telling him to stay down and just be quiet. He continued to yell profanity at everyone. I was then told that passenger had rushed towards the cockpit and hit flight attendant #4 under his chin knocking his head back. Flight attendant #4 threw his arms up trying to protect himself and the cockpit door, not knowing if passenger was trying to force his way into the cockpit. Several male passenger had restrained passenger and put him on the floor at seats xh and xj. Passenger was still shouting and swearing 'land the F...ing plane in boston, I don't give a F... I've done nothing wrong, this is F...ing crazy.' we were then given the signal for final approach. Flight attendant #4 was kneeling over passenger's arms and I had hold of his legs, which we had tied together with 2 linens, jammed under seat xh. We briefly discussed putting passenger in his seat, but felt in the interest of safety to passenger and crew members, it was safer to detain him where he was. I made sure flight attendant #4 and my jump seat position were occupied for landing, a male passenger sat in passenger's seat, in case we needed assistance on landing or taxi in. This whole time, passenger was still yelling profanities and saying 'I haven't done anything wrong.' we landed and taxied to the gate, where several police officers boarded the aircraft and took passenger off the aircraft. Flight attendant #4 was interviewed by the fbi at this time, paramedics came onboard and after looking at flight attendant #4 and myself, advised us to go to the hospital with them. The paramedics called forward to the hospital informing them we were on our way and if possible could the doctors rush us through, as the aircraft was going to wait for us to return so we could continue on to manchester. After being examined by doctor, I was sent for x-rays of my left hand. When I returned, doctor came to me and explained that flight attendant #4 needed quite a few x-rays to his jaw, and felt I should not continue to manchester, and he had taken the liberty of calling operations to inform them not to hold the flight for us, as we were not fit to continue. The doctor informed me I had hyper-extended the ligaments in my left thumb. He gave me a brace to wear for 7-10 days and some pain killers. He recommended I make an appointment to see my own doctor when I returned to atlanta. The next morning I also had pain in my right knee which progressively became more painful throughout the day. I am currently on oji due to this incident, and have an appointment with my own doctor. An fbi agent came over to the hospital to interview me. This took approximately 45 mins. We left the hospital in bangor at XA35 am, sunday, and deadheaded home via boston sun pm. We were told by several passenger while on the ground in bangor, that passenger had been causing problems at the check in desk at the gate in atl prior to boarding and 1 passenger told me passenger had been refused drinks in the crown room or a bar in the atl airport. After being sent to a clinc I was advised to have an mri of my right knee. This took place on jun/xa/99. I had a second visit on jun/xh/99, and was advised that surgery on the knee would be required. After wearing a brace on my thumb for about 8 days it is still sore, but movement is coming back to it, although I am still unable to grip tightly.

Title: FLT ATTENDANT RPT, MD11, ATL-MAN, UNRULY PAX, ASSAULTED FLT ATTENDANTS, 2 INJURED. DIVERT TO BANGOR. PAX ARRESTED.
Narrative: THE FIRST TIME THIS WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTN WAS ON TAXI OUT WHEN FLT ATTENDANT #4 CAME TO ME IN THE MID GALLEY AND SAID THAT HE HAD JUST TRIED TO PICK UP A PLASTIC GLASS FROM THE PAX IN XH WHICH HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF MIMOSA STILL IN IT. PAX GRABBED THE DRINK BACK FROM THE TRAY AND SAID 'ARE YOU CRAZY?' AFTER TKOF AND THE SEAT BELT SIGN HAD BEEN TURNED OFF, I STARTED TO SET UP THE MID GALLEY WITH FLT ATTENDANT #2, WHILE THE 4 FLT ATTENDANTS WORKING BUSINESS BEGAN THE INITIAL BEVERAGE SVC. FLT ATTENDANT #3 AND FLT ATTENDANT #_______ WERE WORKING THE COPLT SIDE OF THE ACFT. SHORTLY AFTER THE BEVERAGE SVC HAD BEGUN, FLT ATTENDANT #3 CAME TO THE GALLEY AND TOLD FLT ATTENDANT #1 AND MYSELF THAT THE GUY IN XH HAD JUST TOUCHED HER INAPPROPRIATELY. FLT ATTENDANT #3 WAS ALSO IN THE GALLEY AT THIS TIME AND FLT ATTENDANT #1 TOLD THEM IF ANYTHING ELSE HAPPENED SHE WOULD GO AND TALK TO THE PAX. FLT ATTENDANT #3 AND I LOOKED AT THE DEP RPT TO SEE IF PAX WAS AN UPGRADED PAX, IT SHOWED HE WAS NOT AN UPGRADE. FLT ATTENDANT #3 THEN SAID TO ME, 'THIS GUY TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO GET PLASTERED TONIGHT,' AND I SAID 'NOT ON THIS FLT YOU'RE NOT.' A FEW MINS LATER, I TOOK THE TRAY SET UP CART TO THE FIRST CLASS GALLEY IN PREPARATION FOR THE MEAL SVC, AS I PASSED SEAT XH, PAX PATTED ME ON THE BACKSIDE 3 TIMES. I WOULDN'T DO THAT TO ANYBODY.' I CROUCHED DOWN BY PAX SEAT, AND HE CONTINUED TO TALK LOUD AND VERY FAST FOR SEVERAL SECONDS, I WOULD SAY 15-20 SECONDS. I EVENTUALLY INTERRUPTED AND ASKED, WHAT IT WAS THAT HE WANTED. HIS RESPONSE WAS 'I WANT A JACK AND COKE IN THERE, AND A CHAMPAGNE IN THERE' POINTING TO 2 GLASSES ON THE TRAY TABLE,' AND 'I'M HUNGRY, I WANT SOMETHING TO EAT.' I EXPLAINED TO PAX THAT WE WOULD BE STARTING MEAL SVC SHORTLY, AND THEN SAID TO HIM 'I'M SORRY, BUT YOU'RE GIVEN ME THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD TOO MUCH TO DRINK, AND WE WILL NOT BE SERVING YOU ANYMORE ALCOHOL ON THIS FLT.' PAX BECAME EVEN MORE AGITATED AT THIS AND SAID LOUDLY, 'I WANT A F...ING DRINK,' I EXPLAINED TO PAX THAT I WOULD BE HAPPY TO GET HIM A SOFT DRINK OR SOME JUICE, AGAIN HE SAID, 'I WANT A F...ING JACK AND COKE AND SOME CHAMPAGNE.' I REPEATED MYSELF, STATING, 'I AM NOT SERVING YOU ANY MORE ALCOHOL ON THIS FLT.' HE RESPONDED WITH 'LOOK I JUST WANT A DRINK. I'M SITTING HERE, I'M LOOKING AFTER MYSELF. I RESPONDED THAT I WAS LOOKING AFTER MYSELF, AND THAT IF HE LEAVES THIS FLT DRUNK, THEN IT IS NOT ONLY HIS PROB, BUT ALSO MY RESPONSIBILITY AND THAT WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. AT THIS POINT HE BECAME VERY LOUD AND ABUSIVE TOWARD ME YELLING 'I WANT A F...ING DRINK.' I STOOD UP AND SAID 'PAX, I AM NOT GOING TO STAND HERE AND ARGUE WITH YOU. AT THIS POINT, PAX BECAME EVEN LOUDER YELLING 'THIS IS F...ING CRAZY, ALL I WANT IS A 'F...ING DRINK. JUST GET ME A F...ING DRINK.' I THEN LEANED TOWARDS HIM AND SAID 'LOOK I HAVE TOLD YOU, I AM NOT GOING TO ARGUE WITH YOU, IF YOU ARE GOING TO CONTINUE THIS, I WILL NOTIFY THE CAPT AND WE WILL LAND THE ACFT.' BEFORE I COULD FINISH MY SENTENCE HE INTERRUPTED AND SAID 'LAND THE F...ING PLANE IN BOSTON AND THROW ME OFF. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO BOSTON.' I REPLIED 'IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT WE'LL DO IT, BUT THE POLICE WILL MEET THE FLT AND YOU WILL BE ARRESTED.' AGAIN HE SAID LAND THE F...ING PLANE, I DON'T GIVE A F...' I RETURNED TO THE MID GALLEY TO RPT THIS TO FLT ATTENDANTS #3 AND #1 WAS IN THE COCKPIT TALKING TO THE CAPT ABOUT THE PROBS WE WERE HAVING, BY THIS TIME OUR SVC HAD BEEN DISRUPTED TO A GREAT EXTENT, AS FLT ATTENDANT #1 WAS DEALING WITH THE PROB I CONTINUED WITH MY DUTIES IN THE GALLEY. OUR SVC CONTINUED TO SUFFER AS I TRIED TO SET UP FOR BOTH SIDES OF THE BUSINESS CLASS CABIN AND NOT JUST MY DESIGNATED SIDE. FROM WHAT I REMEMBER AT THIS POINT. FLT ATTENDANT #4 AGAIN SPOKE TO PAX AND RECEIVED A SIMILAR RESPONSE AS I HAD. SHE DECIDED TO ISSUE PAX WITH A PAX DISTURBANCE RPT. FLT ATTENDANT #1 TOLD ME THAT THE CAPT SAID IF ANYTHING ELSE HAPPENED THAT HE WOULD DIVERT AND LAND THE ACFT. THE NEXT INCIDENT I REMEMBER WAS FLT ATTENDANT #4 ASKING PAX IF HE WOULD LIKE AN APPETIZER. HIS RESPONSE WAS 'F... OFF, YOU F...ING BITCH, I BELIEVE.' FLT ATTENDANT #4 WALKED AWAY TOWARDS THE COCKPIT, BUT I DON'T KNOW IF SHE WENT INTO THE COCKPIT. WHEN SHE CAME BACK, SHE MOVED PAST PAX TO THE NEXT ROW OF SEATS, AT THIS POINT HE BEGAN YELLING AGAIN AT THE TOP OF HIS VOICE 'I WANT A F...ING DRINK, WHAT THE F...ING HELL IS GOING ON, I THEN SAW FLT ATTENDANT #4 GO OVER AND TALK TO PAX, AND HE WAS WITH HIM FOR QUITE SOME TIME, PROBABLY 5 MINS OR SO. WE DIDN'T KNOW WHETHER TO START TO RUN OUT MAIN COURSES OR NOT AS IT WAS POSSIBLE WE WERE GOING TO DIVERT, BUT WORD CAME BACK FROM THE COCKPIT THAT AGAIN PAX WOULD BE GIVEN ONE MORE CHANCE TO CALM DOWN. WE HAD DELIVERED ABOUT HALF OF THE MAIN COURSES IN B ZONE, WHEN I HEARD THE SOUND OF PLATES SMASHING. I LOOKED DOWN THE AISLE AND SAW A COMMOTION AROUND PAX'S SEAT AS I WALKED UP THE AISLE I SAW FOOD ALL OVER THE FLOOR AND WAS TOLD PAX HAD THROWN HIS PATE FROM HIS TABLE. I RETURNED TO THE MID GALLEY, CAME BACK AND SAID START TO PUT THINGS AWAY WE ARE LNDG IN BANGOR. I STARTED TO PUT THINGS AWAY IN THE GALLEY AND FLT ATTENDANTS #1 AND #2 CAME TO ME AND SAID WE WERE GOING TO PUT RESTRAINTS ON PAX. THE 3 OF US WALKED TO PAX'S SEAT AND STOOD OVER HIM, HE WAS STILL VERY LOUD SWEARING AT CREW AND SURROUNDING PAX ALIKE. AGAIN HE WOULD SAY 'PUT THE F...ING HANDCUFFS ON ME AND DROP ME OFF IN BOSTON.' A SCUFFLE THEN BROKE OUT AS FLT ATTENDANTS #4 AND #1 AND MYSELF TRIED AGAIN TO PUT THE RESTRAINTS ON PAX. WE STRUGGLED FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE RESTRAINTS ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO GET STARTED. FLT ATTENDANT #4 TRIED TO HOLD DOWN HIS ARMS WHILE I TRIED TO HOLD HIS HANDS TOGETHER. WE EACH HAD A RESTRAINT, BUT WERE STRUGGLING TO GET THEM AROUND HIS WRISTS AND GET ONE FASTENED. IT WAS AT THIS TIME MY THUMB WAS PUSHED BACK BY PAX AND I SUSTAINED THE INJURY. I WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN BANGOR. WE EVENTUALLY MANAGED TO GET ONE OF THE RESTRAINTS AROUND PAX'S WRISTS AND RESTRAIN HIS HANDS, WITH THE HELP OF A MALE PAX HOLDING PAX IN A HEADLOCK. AT THIS POINT PAX WAS IN HIS SEAT WITH HIS SEAT BELT FASTENED, STILL YELLING AND SWEARING AT EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. I RETURNED TO MY GALLEY TO CONTINUE TO PUT THINGS AWAY FOR LNDG. THEN ONE OF THE FLT ATTENDANTS CAME RUSHING INTO THE GALLEY AND SAID YOU NEED TO GET OUT THERE, THAT GUY JUST HIT FLT ATTENDANT #4. I HURRIED OUT TO WHERE THERE WAS A GROUP OF MALE PAX STANDING OVER PAX, WHO WAS ON THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF SEATS XJ AND XH. THE PAX WERE VERY IRRITATED WITH PAX BY THIS TIME AND WERE TELLING HIM TO STAY DOWN AND JUST BE QUIET. HE CONTINUED TO YELL PROFANITY AT EVERYONE. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT PAX HAD RUSHED TOWARDS THE COCKPIT AND HIT FLT ATTENDANT #4 UNDER HIS CHIN KNOCKING HIS HEAD BACK. FLT ATTENDANT #4 THREW HIS ARMS UP TRYING TO PROTECT HIMSELF AND THE COCKPIT DOOR, NOT KNOWING IF PAX WAS TRYING TO FORCE HIS WAY INTO THE COCKPIT. SEVERAL MALE PAX HAD RESTRAINED PAX AND PUT HIM ON THE FLOOR AT SEATS XH AND XJ. PAX WAS STILL SHOUTING AND SWEARING 'LAND THE F...ING PLANE IN BOSTON, I DON'T GIVE A F... I'VE DONE NOTHING WRONG, THIS IS F...ING CRAZY.' WE WERE THEN GIVEN THE SIGNAL FOR FINAL APCH. FLT ATTENDANT #4 WAS KNEELING OVER PAX'S ARMS AND I HAD HOLD OF HIS LEGS, WHICH WE HAD TIED TOGETHER WITH 2 LINENS, JAMMED UNDER SEAT XH. WE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED PUTTING PAX IN HIS SEAT, BUT FELT IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY TO PAX AND CREW MEMBERS, IT WAS SAFER TO DETAIN HIM WHERE HE WAS. I MADE SURE FLT ATTENDANT #4 AND MY JUMP SEAT POS WERE OCCUPIED FOR LNDG, A MALE PAX SAT IN PAX'S SEAT, IN CASE WE NEEDED ASSISTANCE ON LNDG OR TAXI IN. THIS WHOLE TIME, PAX WAS STILL YELLING PROFANITIES AND SAYING 'I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG.' WE LANDED AND TAXIED TO THE GATE, WHERE SEVERAL POLICE OFFICERS BOARDED THE ACFT AND TOOK PAX OFF THE ACFT. FLT ATTENDANT #4 WAS INTERVIEWED BY THE FBI AT THIS TIME, PARAMEDICS CAME ONBOARD AND AFTER LOOKING AT FLT ATTENDANT #4 AND MYSELF, ADVISED US TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL WITH THEM. THE PARAMEDICS CALLED FORWARD TO THE HOSPITAL INFORMING THEM WE WERE ON OUR WAY AND IF POSSIBLE COULD THE DOCTORS RUSH US THROUGH, AS THE ACFT WAS GOING TO WAIT FOR US TO RETURN SO WE COULD CONTINUE ON TO MANCHESTER. AFTER BEING EXAMINED BY DOCTOR, I WAS SENT FOR X-RAYS OF MY L HAND. WHEN I RETURNED, DOCTOR CAME TO ME AND EXPLAINED THAT FLT ATTENDANT #4 NEEDED QUITE A FEW X-RAYS TO HIS JAW, AND FELT I SHOULD NOT CONTINUE TO MANCHESTER, AND HE HAD TAKEN THE LIBERTY OF CALLING OPS TO INFORM THEM NOT TO HOLD THE FLT FOR US, AS WE WERE NOT FIT TO CONTINUE. THE DOCTOR INFORMED ME I HAD HYPER-EXTENDED THE LIGAMENTS IN MY L THUMB. HE GAVE ME A BRACE TO WEAR FOR 7-10 DAYS AND SOME PAIN KILLERS. HE RECOMMENDED I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE MY OWN DOCTOR WHEN I RETURNED TO ATLANTA. THE NEXT MORNING I ALSO HAD PAIN IN MY R KNEE WHICH PROGRESSIVELY BECAME MORE PAINFUL THROUGHOUT THE DAY. I AM CURRENTLY ON OJI DUE TO THIS INCIDENT, AND HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY OWN DOCTOR. AN FBI AGENT CAME OVER TO THE HOSPITAL TO INTERVIEW ME. THIS TOOK APPROX 45 MINS. WE LEFT THE HOSPITAL IN BANGOR AT XA35 AM, SUNDAY, AND DEADHEADED HOME VIA BOSTON SUN PM. WE WERE TOLD BY SEVERAL PAX WHILE ON THE GND IN BANGOR, THAT PAX HAD BEEN CAUSING PROBS AT THE CHK IN DESK AT THE GATE IN ATL PRIOR TO BOARDING AND 1 PAX TOLD ME PAX HAD BEEN REFUSED DRINKS IN THE CROWN ROOM OR A BAR IN THE ATL ARPT. AFTER BEING SENT TO A CLINC I WAS ADVISED TO HAVE AN MRI OF MY R KNEE.
