Narrative:
En route from bze to mia in a B727, the #2 fuel quantity gauge was observed fluctuating. There was a write-up concerning this same thing. It was assumed we were experiencing a reoccurrence of the same problem. After further observation, it was noticed that although slightly fluctuating, the quantity in the #2 tank was steadily decreasing at an abnormally high rate compared to the #1 and #3 tanks. After consulting the operating manual, it was decided that the possibility of a fuel leak existed. An emergency was declared and priority handling was excepted for landing at mia. Fire and rescue were requested to meet the aircraft and their inspection confirmed a fuel leak near the leading edge of the left wing near the fuselage. With fire trucks standing by an orderly evacuate/evacuation of passenger and crew was performed through the aft airstairs without incident.

Title: A BOEING 727 FLC OBSERVED A STEADY FUEL LOSS FROM THE #2 TANK. SUSPECTING A FUEL LEAK THE FLC DECLARED AN EMER AND LANDED AT MIA.
Narrative: ENRTE FROM BZE TO MIA IN A B727, THE #2 FUEL QUANTITY GAUGE WAS OBSERVED FLUCTUATING. THERE WAS A WRITE-UP CONCERNING THIS SAME THING. IT WAS ASSUMED WE WERE EXPERIENCING A REOCCURRENCE OF THE SAME PROB. AFTER FURTHER OBSERVATION, IT WAS NOTICED THAT ALTHOUGH SLIGHTLY FLUCTUATING, THE QUANTITY IN THE #2 TANK WAS STEADILY DECREASING AT AN ABNORMALLY HIGH RATE COMPARED TO THE #1 AND #3 TANKS. AFTER CONSULTING THE OPERATING MANUAL, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE POSSIBILITY OF A FUEL LEAK EXISTED. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND PRIORITY HANDLING WAS EXCEPTED FOR LNDG AT MIA. FIRE AND RESCUE WERE REQUESTED TO MEET THE ACFT AND THEIR INSPECTION CONFIRMED A FUEL LEAK NEAR THE LEADING EDGE OF THE L WING NEAR THE FUSELAGE. WITH FIRE TRUCKS STANDING BY AN ORDERLY EVAC OF PAX AND CREW WAS PERFORMED THROUGH THE AFT AIRSTAIRS WITHOUT INCIDENT.
