Narrative:

Leaving dfw 'dallas 5' departure, txk transition, with an initial climb to 10000 ft. Neither the pilot nor copilot had ever flown into dfw before, and when we opened the SID publication on board the aircraft, we opened to the 'dallas 5' for addison, tx, instead of the 'dallas 5' for dfw. After takeoff on runway 17R, having reached the TTT VOR/DME, we initiated a climbing left turn for an on course heading of approximately 074 degrees. We contacted regional departure on the frequency listed on the SID (the wrong frequency) and after much confusion were eventually turned back to runway heading and sent to the correct frequency, where we were told to call a certain phone number after we landed. This incident was entirely our fault for using the wrong 'dallas 5' departure description, but it is easy to see why we were confused. Having 3 or more departures -- all with the same name, but for different airfields -- is an open invitation for this type of mistake.

Title: MIL LEAR DEPARTS DFW ON WRONG SID.

Narrative: LEAVING DFW 'DALLAS 5' DEP, TXK TRANSITION, WITH AN INITIAL CLB TO 10000 FT. NEITHER THE PLT NOR COPLT HAD EVER FLOWN INTO DFW BEFORE, AND WHEN WE OPENED THE SID PUB ON BOARD THE ACFT, WE OPENED TO THE 'DALLAS 5' FOR ADDISON, TX, INSTEAD OF THE 'DALLAS 5' FOR DFW. AFTER TKOF ON RWY 17R, HAVING REACHED THE TTT VOR/DME, WE INITIATED A CLBING L TURN FOR AN ON COURSE HDG OF APPROX 074 DEGS. WE CONTACTED REGIONAL DEP ON THE FREQ LISTED ON THE SID (THE WRONG FREQ) AND AFTER MUCH CONFUSION WERE EVENTUALLY TURNED BACK TO RWY HDG AND SENT TO THE CORRECT FREQ, WHERE WE WERE TOLD TO CALL A CERTAIN PHONE NUMBER AFTER WE LANDED. THIS INCIDENT WAS ENTIRELY OUR FAULT FOR USING THE WRONG 'DALLAS 5' DEP DESCRIPTION, BUT IT IS EASY TO SEE WHY WE WERE CONFUSED. HAVING 3 OR MORE DEPS -- ALL WITH THE SAME NAME, BUT FOR DIFFERENT AIRFIELDS -- IS AN OPEN INVITATION FOR THIS TYPE OF MISTAKE.
