On flap retraction, EICAS message leading edge flap asymmetry and amber leading edge light. Did book procedure and landed lax. Checked overweight limits in operations manual and performance manual. Landed at 384600 pounds soft touchdown normal landing. Used captain's emergency authority/authorized to land overweight. Supplemental information from acn 445172: normal landing and rollout. Taxied back to gate after inspection. There were several previous write-ups for flap problems with this aircraft.
