Narrative:
Cleared to taxi runway 31 via taxiway T4, left, hold short runway 31 approach. First officer getting tps, head down, and I didn't see sign. Ground told us to stop and that we had passed to hold point. Aircraft on final was told to do 360 degree turn while we taxied out on runway 31 down to taxiway L6 and cleared back to the hold line. WX was 5000 ft, 5 mi visibility. Aircraft on final requested visual approach. Tower said he could not grant it with us past the approach hold line. Came back around the second time, and I did see the sign. It is on the right side of taxiway just past the left split between runway 20L and runway 31. No sign on left side. I was also surprised to find the line so far back from the runway. I called the bna tower on the phone after we arrived at lga and asked them why no visuals to runway 31 since the WX was better than the usual 800 ft and 2 mi ILS protection criteria. I was told that it was procedure at bna. Nonetheless, still my fault for not seeing the sign, but I was still concentrating on getting the right taxiway. Would be nice if bna could put a sign on the left side of taxiway. Also ground told us we were second company jet to miss the line this morning.

Title: MD80 FLC TAXIES PAST HOLD POINT AT BNA.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI RWY 31 VIA TXWY T4, L, HOLD SHORT RWY 31 APCH. FO GETTING TPS, HEAD DOWN, AND I DIDN'T SEE SIGN. GND TOLD US TO STOP AND THAT WE HAD PASSED TO HOLD POINT. ACFT ON FINAL WAS TOLD TO DO 360 DEG TURN WHILE WE TAXIED OUT ON RWY 31 DOWN TO TXWY L6 AND CLRED BACK TO THE HOLD LINE. WX WAS 5000 FT, 5 MI VISIBILITY. ACFT ON FINAL REQUESTED VISUAL APCH. TWR SAID HE COULD NOT GRANT IT WITH US PAST THE APCH HOLD LINE. CAME BACK AROUND THE SECOND TIME, AND I DID SEE THE SIGN. IT IS ON THE R SIDE OF TXWY JUST PAST THE L SPLIT BTWN RWY 20L AND RWY 31. NO SIGN ON L SIDE. I WAS ALSO SURPRISED TO FIND THE LINE SO FAR BACK FROM THE RWY. I CALLED THE BNA TWR ON THE PHONE AFTER WE ARRIVED AT LGA AND ASKED THEM WHY NO VISUALS TO RWY 31 SINCE THE WX WAS BETTER THAN THE USUAL 800 FT AND 2 MI ILS PROTECTION CRITERIA. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS PROC AT BNA. NONETHELESS, STILL MY FAULT FOR NOT SEEING THE SIGN, BUT I WAS STILL CONCENTRATING ON GETTING THE RIGHT TXWY. WOULD BE NICE IF BNA COULD PUT A SIGN ON THE L SIDE OF TXWY. ALSO GND TOLD US WE WERE SECOND COMPANY JET TO MISS THE LINE THIS MORNING.
