Narrative:

Climbing through 3000 ft MSL after departing runway 12L at msp, the lead flight attendant reported smoke in the aft part of the passenger cabin. We declared an emergency and requested a left turn back to msp runway 22. Had emergency equipment standing by. Made an overweight landing on runway 22. Had emergency equipment crew examine exterior of aircraft for signs of smoke or fire. By now the smoke had dissipated in the cabin. I determined an evacuate/evacuation was unnecessary and it was safe to taxi to the gate. We suspected bird ingestion into the engine caused the smoke.
