Narrative:
We had been getting shortcuts all night long on our trip from bos to mco. Approximately 25 mi north of kinston we thought ATC had given us 15 degrees left of course for ormond beach when able, when in fact he had given us 15 degrees right of course. We both anticipated getting the 15 degree left shortcut for omn and therefore both thought we had heard the clearance. ATC corrected our wrong turn and didn't say it had caused a problem. Solution: don't anticipate a clearance, don't hear what you want to hear.
