Narrative:
Ship xyz inbound was swapped to my gate. I checked the aircraft per air carrier transit check. While checking the logbook, I noticed the crew had written up the APU in the 'irregular' block as 'APU would not start.' the crew also wrote in the 'corrective action block' 'started after warm-up prior to flight.' I started the APU. APU start was normal and operation was normal, so I signed off the item as 'APU operations check normal.' after which I pulled the log sheet and signed an airworthiness release on the new sheet. The aircraft departed. While entering the log sheet in the computer, I noticed the crew had deferred the APU 'inoperative' per the MEL. They made no entry in the logbook to reflect this. The log entry looked like a squawk. They did not write as required 'flight crew placard installed' and they did not enter a flight control deferred number. I notified maintenance control. The maintenance deferred item was removed since APU was operating normally.

Narrative: SHIP XYZ INBOUND WAS SWAPPED TO MY GATE. I CHKED THE ACFT PER ACR TRANSIT CHK. WHILE CHKING THE LOGBOOK, I NOTICED THE CREW HAD WRITTEN UP THE APU IN THE 'IRREGULAR' BLOCK AS 'APU WOULD NOT START.' THE CREW ALSO WROTE IN THE 'CORRECTIVE ACTION BLOCK' 'STARTED AFTER WARM-UP PRIOR TO FLT.' I STARTED THE APU. APU START WAS NORMAL AND OP WAS NORMAL, SO I SIGNED OFF THE ITEM AS 'APU OPS CHK NORMAL.' AFTER WHICH I PULLED THE LOG SHEET AND SIGNED AN AIRWORTHINESS RELEASE ON THE NEW SHEET. THE ACFT DEPARTED. WHILE ENTERING THE LOG SHEET IN THE COMPUTER, I NOTICED THE CREW HAD DEFERRED THE APU 'INOP' PER THE MEL. THEY MADE NO ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK TO REFLECT THIS. THE LOG ENTRY LOOKED LIKE A SQUAWK. THEY DID NOT WRITE AS REQUIRED 'FLC PLACARD INSTALLED' AND THEY DID NOT ENTER A FLT CTL DEFERRED NUMBER. I NOTIFIED MAINT CTL. THE MAINT DEFERRED ITEM WAS REMOVED SINCE APU WAS OPERATING NORMALLY.
