Narrative:
Gfms/MD80. I am concerned of lack of standardization/crew coordination with use of the gfms/GPS on the MD80. Pilots do not receive any training on the new NAVAID that only some of the fleet is equipped with. Most PF's are very aggressive with programming this computer, even below 10000 ft. It should be reiterated that both pilots be aware how the GPS is being programmed and limit its use during critical phases of flight -- especially below 10000 ft. I recommend the PNF do the programming below FL180 as a standardized practice.
