Narrative:
Observed deer on runway 22, bhb, while on short final. Executed go around. Contacted deer during climb out. Diverted to bgr. Requested crash equipment on standby and tower overfly for visual inspection of possible damage. None noted. Landed without incident. On ground, performed visual inspection of aircraft with maintenance personnel. No evidence of damage found. It is my personal opinion that we came out of this situation without any damage done due to nothing but blind luck. Had we not initiated a go around or had we initiated any later, damage certainly would have occurred. Fencing at the bar harbor airport is inadequate in keeping wildlife out of the airport boundary. On numerous occasions we've observed deer in the vicinity of runways and txwys. Perhaps runway sweeps prior to landing would alleviate the potential for future collision of this nature.

Title: BE02 CREW HIT A DEER ON GO AROUND AT BHB, ME.
Narrative: OBSERVED DEER ON RWY 22, BHB, WHILE ON SHORT FINAL. EXECUTED GO AROUND. CONTACTED DEER DURING CLBOUT. DIVERTED TO BGR. REQUESTED CRASH EQUIP ON STANDBY AND TWR OVERFLY FOR VISUAL INSPECTION OF POSSIBLE DAMAGE. NONE NOTED. LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. ON GND, PERFORMED VISUAL INSPECTION OF ACFT WITH MAINT PERSONNEL. NO EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE FOUND. IT IS MY PERSONAL OPINION THAT WE CAME OUT OF THIS SIT WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE DONE DUE TO NOTHING BUT BLIND LUCK. HAD WE NOT INITIATED A GO AROUND OR HAD WE INITIATED ANY LATER, DAMAGE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. FENCING AT THE BAR HARBOR ARPT IS INADEQUATE IN KEEPING WILDLIFE OUT OF THE ARPT BOUNDARY. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WE'VE OBSERVED DEER IN THE VICINITY OF RWYS AND TXWYS. PERHAPS RWY SWEEPS PRIOR TO LNDG WOULD ALLEVIATE THE POTENTIAL FOR FUTURE COLLISION OF THIS NATURE.
