Narrative:
While on an IFR flight, 1 of my 2 passenger became ill and needed to get on the ground as soon as possible to overcome severe motion sickness and migraine headache. Advised center of intentions to divert to nearest airport. Dubuque, ia, was closest airport. I did not have approach charts to dbq. The center controller gave me the localizer frequency, final approach fix information, and straight-in and circling minimum altitudes. The WX was 1400 ft AGL overcast with unrestr visibility. I elected to descend via the localizer and GS until we broke out at 1400 ft AGL. I don't' know how this descent was necessarily legal.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF A CESSNA 182 DIVERTED TO LAND FOR AN ILL PAX AND WAS DIRECTED TO THE NEAREST ARPT FOR WHICH HE DID NOT HAVE INST APCH CHARTS. THE ARTCC CTLR, WHO WAS ALSO THE APCH CTLR, PROVIDED THE ESSENTIAL APCH INFO TO THE RPTR AND THE APCH WAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
Narrative: WHILE ON AN IFR FLT, 1 OF MY 2 PAX BECAME ILL AND NEEDED TO GET ON THE GND ASAP TO OVERCOME SEVERE MOTION SICKNESS AND MIGRAINE HEADACHE. ADVISED CTR OF INTENTIONS TO DIVERT TO NEAREST ARPT. DUBUQUE, IA, WAS CLOSEST ARPT. I DID NOT HAVE APCH CHARTS TO DBQ. THE CTR CTLR GAVE ME THE LOC FREQ, FINAL APCH FIX INFO, AND STRAIGHT-IN AND CIRCLING MINIMUM ALTS. THE WX WAS 1400 FT AGL OVCST WITH UNRESTR VISIBILITY. I ELECTED TO DSND VIA THE LOC AND GS UNTIL WE BROKE OUT AT 1400 FT AGL. I DON'T' KNOW HOW THIS DSCNT WAS NECESSARILY LEGAL.
