Narrative:
On approach into new bern, nc, from rdu, I was flying, my captain was working radios and other PNF duties. We descended through a broken layer of clouds to look for the airport. ATC said to expect the visual. We had the localizer tuned, idented. We broke out to see the field. About 6 mi away, we realized we were looking at cherry point MCAS. We turned away and proceeded to ewn uneventfully. I feel that expecting the visual approach, we would see the field as soon as we broke out. When we broke out, we saw an airport, and presumed it was ours. We had been given several vectors for spacing behind a falcon jet, and I think we lost spatial awareness because we switched the navigation radios from VOR to localizer. The situation was further complicated when ATC canceled our IFR flight plan. We said we would cancel on the ground or on final, and they misunderstood. We were re-idented, and no other complications arose. Situational awareness, and ATC confusion led to this event, but good crew coordination on behalf of myself and my captain led to a problem free continuation of flight. Supplemental information from acn 450204: we realized we were flying toward cherry point MCAS by a xchk of navaids. We attempted radio contact with cherry point approach control several times before contact was established and we turned toward new bern airport. This situation was precipitated by my prefiguring takeoff performance data in preparation for a quick turnaround. Next time, I'll pay more attention to the immediate duties at hand.

Title: A JETSTREAM 3200 FLC STARTS AN APCH TO CHERRY POINT MCAS AFTER BREAKING OUT OF THE OVCST AND CLRED FOR A VISUAL TO NEW BERN, EWN, NC.
Narrative: ON APCH INTO NEW BERN, NC, FROM RDU, I WAS FLYING, MY CAPT WAS WORKING RADIOS AND OTHER PNF DUTIES. WE DSNDED THROUGH A BROKEN LAYER OF CLOUDS TO LOOK FOR THE ARPT. WE TURNED AWAY AND PROCEEDED TO EWN UNEVENTFULLY. I FEEL THAT EXPECTING THE VISUAL APCH, WE WOULD SEE THE FIELD AS SOON AS WE BROKE OUT. WHEN WE BROKE OUT, WE SAW AN ARPT, AND PRESUMED IT WAS OURS. WE HAD BEEN GIVEN SEVERAL VECTORS FOR SPACING BEHIND A FALCON JET, AND I THINK WE LOST SPATIAL AWARENESS BECAUSE WE SWITCHED THE NAV RADIOS FROM VOR TO LOC.
