Narrative:

Arrived portland/troutdale airport, VFR, approximately XA30 sep/xa/99. We were on requested vectors by ATC, turned over to tower and landed without incident. Contacted ground control and requested taxi to terminal as depicted in flight guide to pick up my relatives. Smart, fast talking controller said, 'we don't have a terminal' and said he would taxi me to 'FBO'. I held and advised him I was to taxi to the terminal for parking as depicted in the flight guide. He then advised that he saw some people waiting in front of a building on the other side of the runway and gave taxi instructions to there. The building was signed, 'portland troutdale terminal.' I taxied in and taxied out without incident. Reported ready at runway. Same fast-talking tower controller was barking orders to other aircraft. I requested the frequency for class C airspace, which he gave but told me he would give me the frequency change after departure. Cleared for takeoff, no frequency change instruction given while climbing out. Then, he chewed me out for not following his 'clearance' and said I was in portland airspace, which overlays portland/troutdale at 2000 ft or 1700 ft. After hearing his bad delivery, god-like altitude, he gave me the frequency change instruction as I climbed through 2300 ft. I then contacted portland ATC. Very pleasant, no problem reported. I had not argued with troutdale tower at any time.

Title: AN EXPERIENCED C310 PLT REMAINED CALM AND PROFESSIONAL DESPITE BEING TREATED IN AN UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER BY THE TWR CTLR AT TTD.

Narrative: ARRIVED PORTLAND/TROUTDALE ARPT, VFR, APPROX XA30 SEP/XA/99. WE WERE ON REQUESTED VECTORS BY ATC, TURNED OVER TO TWR AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. CONTACTED GND CTL AND REQUESTED TAXI TO TERMINAL AS DEPICTED IN FLT GUIDE TO PICK UP MY RELATIVES. SMART, FAST TALKING CTLR SAID, 'WE DON'T HAVE A TERMINAL' AND SAID HE WOULD TAXI ME TO 'FBO'. I HELD AND ADVISED HIM I WAS TO TAXI TO THE TERMINAL FOR PARKING AS DEPICTED IN THE FLT GUIDE. HE THEN ADVISED THAT HE SAW SOME PEOPLE WAITING IN FRONT OF A BUILDING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RWY AND GAVE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO THERE. THE BUILDING WAS SIGNED, 'PORTLAND TROUTDALE TERMINAL.' I TAXIED IN AND TAXIED OUT WITHOUT INCIDENT. RPTED READY AT RWY. SAME FAST-TALKING TWR CTLR WAS BARKING ORDERS TO OTHER ACFT. I REQUESTED THE FREQ FOR CLASS C AIRSPACE, WHICH HE GAVE BUT TOLD ME HE WOULD GIVE ME THE FREQ CHANGE AFTER DEP. CLRED FOR TKOF, NO FREQ CHANGE INSTRUCTION GIVEN WHILE CLBING OUT. THEN, HE CHEWED ME OUT FOR NOT FOLLOWING HIS 'CLRNC' AND SAID I WAS IN PORTLAND AIRSPACE, WHICH OVERLAYS PORTLAND/TROUTDALE AT 2000 FT OR 1700 FT. AFTER HEARING HIS BAD DELIVERY, GOD-LIKE ALT, HE GAVE ME THE FREQ CHANGE INSTRUCTION AS I CLBED THROUGH 2300 FT. I THEN CONTACTED PORTLAND ATC. VERY PLEASANT, NO PROB RPTED. I HAD NOT ARGUED WITH TROUTDALE TWR AT ANY TIME.
