Narrative:
While taxiing back to the ramp I was told to taxi straight ahead and hold short of runway 7L, which I replied. My call sign was aircraft X, and during that moment the controller was also talking with an aircraft Y and an aircraft Z. While I was holding short of runway 7L, I thought hearing the ground controller saying aircraft X expedite your crossing and cross runway 7L, which I did without replying because he told me to hurry. After I had crossed the runway he asked aircraft X did you cross the runway? And I said that's affirmative. Then he came back to me saying that he wasn't talking to me, that he was talking to aircraft Y and never said something about crossing the runway. He finally said ok don't worry but please give us a call when you get to the ramp. I called to the numbers listed on the phone guide and nobody answered. Later I received a call from the manager (I think) of the control tower. We talked about what happened and he told me that I needed to be more careful because of all the student activity that goes on at the airport and finally he said that they were not going to take any action. But anyway I felt the need of filling out this report.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PVT PLT FLYING A C172 AT DAB BECAME CONFUSED WITH GND CTL INSTRUCTIONS BECAUSE OF SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGNS RESULTING IN A RWY INCURSION.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING BACK TO THE RAMP I WAS TOLD TO TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 7L, WHICH I REPLIED. MY CALL SIGN WAS ACFT X, AND DURING THAT MOMENT THE CTLR WAS ALSO TALKING WITH AN ACFT Y AND AN ACFT Z. WHILE I WAS HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 7L, I THOUGHT HEARING THE GND CTLR SAYING ACFT X EXPEDITE YOUR XING AND CROSS RWY 7L, WHICH I DID WITHOUT REPLYING BECAUSE HE TOLD ME TO HURRY. AFTER I HAD CROSSED THE RWY HE ASKED ACFT X DID YOU CROSS THE RWY? AND I SAID THAT'S AFFIRMATIVE. THEN HE CAME BACK TO ME SAYING THAT HE WASN'T TALKING TO ME, THAT HE WAS TALKING TO ACFT Y AND NEVER SAID SOMETHING ABOUT XING THE RWY. HE FINALLY SAID OK DON'T WORRY BUT PLEASE GIVE US A CALL WHEN YOU GET TO THE RAMP. I CALLED TO THE NUMBERS LISTED ON THE PHONE GUIDE AND NOBODY ANSWERED. LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE MGR (I THINK) OF THE CTL TWR. WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO BE MORE CAREFUL BECAUSE OF ALL THE STUDENT ACTIVITY THAT GOES ON AT THE ARPT AND FINALLY HE SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO TAKE ANY ACTION. BUT ANYWAY I FELT THE NEED OF FILLING OUT THIS RPT.
