Narrative:
The ramp for regional aircraft has been relocated to a location next to the parallel taxiway for runway 30R at the approach end of the runway. The ramp has no protective blast fence to guard against damage caused by the jet exhaust of aircraft entering the runway for departure. The tower repeatedly issues clrncs onto the runway requiring higher than normal taxi thrust levels in order to sequence a departure between two arriving aircraft. My company has issued a bulletin to use extreme caution when taxiing onto the runway to preclude the possibility of jet blast damage to the regional ramp. The tower operates as if there is no jet blast hazard on the regional ramp. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the captain stated that no change has taken place at msp. He has submitted reports to both his company and pilot group air safety. The airport management exhibits little if any concern for the problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 CAPT IS CONCERNED THAT A NEWLY OPENED COMMUTER RAMP NEAR RWY 30R AT MSP IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO BLAST DAMAGE.
Narrative: THE RAMP FOR REGIONAL ACFT HAS BEEN RELOCATED TO A LOCATION NEXT TO THE PARALLEL TXWY FOR RWY 30R AT THE APCH END OF THE RWY. THE RAMP HAS NO PROTECTIVE BLAST FENCE TO GUARD AGAINST DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE JET EXHAUST OF ACFT ENTERING THE RWY FOR DEP. THE TWR REPEATEDLY ISSUES CLRNCS ONTO THE RWY REQUIRING HIGHER THAN NORMAL TAXI THRUST LEVELS IN ORDER TO SEQUENCE A DEP BTWN TWO ARRIVING ACFT. MY COMPANY HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN TO USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN TAXIING ONTO THE RWY TO PRECLUDE THE POSSIBILITY OF JET BLAST DAMAGE TO THE REGIONAL RAMP. THE TWR OPERATES AS IF THERE IS NO JET BLAST HAZARD ON THE REGIONAL RAMP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE CAPT STATED THAT NO CHANGE HAS TAKEN PLACE AT MSP. HE HAS SUBMITTED RPTS TO BOTH HIS COMPANY AND PLT GROUP AIR SAFETY. THE ARPT MGMNT EXHIBITS LITTLE IF ANY CONCERN FOR THE PROB.
