Narrative:
When cleared out of the published holding pattern at pvd on the norwich 2 arrival, we were issued vectors of 060 degrees. First officer was flying. He rotated the heading knob to begin the turn and I left the frequency to talk on the PA and get the cabin secured for the approach. The first officer turned from a 130 degree heading to a 260 degree heading and I missed it. The ZBW controller called back and issued an expeditious turn to 060 degrees and direct bos. It appears the first officer heard 260 degrees instead of 060 degrees and I missed it too with no EFIS picture and in solid WX. I had no clues that the heading was wrong in that we were headed away from bos instead of toward it. In the future, I will wait until the turn is accomplished to go off frequency or such.

Title: A B737-200 FLC FAILED TO CORRECTLY HEAR A VECTOR HDG AND FLEW IN THE WRONG DIRECTION NEAR BOS.
Narrative: WHEN CLRED OUT OF THE PUBLISHED HOLDING PATTERN AT PVD ON THE NORWICH 2 ARR, WE WERE ISSUED VECTORS OF 060 DEGS. FO WAS FLYING. HE ROTATED THE HDG KNOB TO BEGIN THE TURN AND I LEFT THE FREQ TO TALK ON THE PA AND GET THE CABIN SECURED FOR THE APCH. THE FO TURNED FROM A 130 DEG HDG TO A 260 DEG HDG AND I MISSED IT. THE ZBW CTLR CALLED BACK AND ISSUED AN EXPEDITIOUS TURN TO 060 DEGS AND DIRECT BOS. IT APPEARS THE FO HEARD 260 DEGS INSTEAD OF 060 DEGS AND I MISSED IT TOO WITH NO EFIS PICTURE AND IN SOLID WX. I HAD NO CLUES THAT THE HDG WAS WRONG IN THAT WE WERE HEADED AWAY FROM BOS INSTEAD OF TOWARD IT. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL WAIT UNTIL THE TURN IS ACCOMPLISHED TO GO OFF FREQ OR SUCH.
