Approaching leveloff altitude of 12000 ft, first officer hand flying, ATC issued a 'fly direct to' clearance. Captain and first officer both distraction with gfms inputs, causing a 400 ft altitude overshoot. Returned immediately to 12000 ft. No traffic conflicts.

Narrative: APCHING LEVELOFF ALT OF 12000 FT, FO HAND FLYING, ATC ISSUED A 'FLY DIRECT TO' CLRNC. CAPT AND FO BOTH DISTR WITH GFMS INPUTS, CAUSING A 400 FT ALT OVERSHOOT. RETURNED IMMEDIATELY TO 12000 FT. NO TFC CONFLICTS.
