Narrative:

During holding to sfo we briefed for an ILS to runway 28L. ATIS NOTAM'ed runway 28R/10L closed expect ILS runway 28L. After briefing the approach, the ATIS changed and opened runway 28R. I missed the runway change on the ATIS. We were still set up for the ILS to runway 28L. After a series of delay vectors we were given a heading to intercept the localizer -- no runway was mentioned. As the localizer was ctring up for the left runway, we were given an approach clearance to runway 28R instead of runway 28L. Neither I nor the copilot caught the mistake. The runways in question are only 750 ft apart, so to approach we looked like we were a little off course, but not significantly off course. When we switched over to tower, we were cleared to land on runway 28R. I was caught by surprise, so I queried ATC about the cleared runway and we were again cleared to land on runway 28R. Since we had the runway in sight we sidestepped to runway 28R and landed uneventfully. I feel that this type of incident could be avoided if we were given a runway assignment to expect when we first checked on to approach. Also, the ATIS was picked up electronically and we get a copy in our cockpit. If the electronic ATIS could put in bold or big print the ILS to be used or any usual information about the airport.

Title: AFTER BRIEFING FOR AND SETTING UP FOR APCH TO RWY 28L AT SFO, THIS MDT CREW HAS DIFFICULTY WHEN CLRED TO LAND RWY 28R.

Narrative: DURING HOLDING TO SFO WE BRIEFED FOR AN ILS TO RWY 28L. ATIS NOTAM'ED RWY 28R/10L CLOSED EXPECT ILS RWY 28L. AFTER BRIEFING THE APCH, THE ATIS CHANGED AND OPENED RWY 28R. I MISSED THE RWY CHANGE ON THE ATIS. WE WERE STILL SET UP FOR THE ILS TO RWY 28L. AFTER A SERIES OF DELAY VECTORS WE WERE GIVEN A HDG TO INTERCEPT THE LOC -- NO RWY WAS MENTIONED. AS THE LOC WAS CTRING UP FOR THE L RWY, WE WERE GIVEN AN APCH CLRNC TO RWY 28R INSTEAD OF RWY 28L. NEITHER I NOR THE COPLT CAUGHT THE MISTAKE. THE RWYS IN QUESTION ARE ONLY 750 FT APART, SO TO APCH WE LOOKED LIKE WE WERE A LITTLE OFF COURSE, BUT NOT SIGNIFICANTLY OFF COURSE. WHEN WE SWITCHED OVER TO TWR, WE WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 28R. I WAS CAUGHT BY SURPRISE, SO I QUERIED ATC ABOUT THE CLRED RWY AND WE WERE AGAIN CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 28R. SINCE WE HAD THE RWY IN SIGHT WE SIDESTEPPED TO RWY 28R AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. I FEEL THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT COULD BE AVOIDED IF WE WERE GIVEN A RWY ASSIGNMENT TO EXPECT WHEN WE FIRST CHKED ON TO APCH. ALSO, THE ATIS WAS PICKED UP ELECTRONICALLY AND WE GET A COPY IN OUR COCKPIT. IF THE ELECTRONIC ATIS COULD PUT IN BOLD OR BIG PRINT THE ILS TO BE USED OR ANY USUAL INFO ABOUT THE ARPT.
