Narrative:
During descent into xyz in VMC we were cleared to 2000 ft. Upon leveling, approach control asked us to check our altitude and gave us the current altimeter. We reset our altimeters and corrected our altitude -- we were approximately 300 ft low. No conflicts were reported transition level was 5500 ft.
