Narrative:
Cleared to 5000 ft from 3000 ft direct to destination. Was hand flying. Aircraft was very light and WX cool, and aircraft started to exceed 250 KTS. In my concern for raising the nose and pulling the throttles back, I saw I was going through 5000 ft. I actually hit about 5400 ft maximum as I started back down. Lesson learned -- reduce performance much earlier!

Title: A CPR FLC FLYING A CE750 NEAR MCN FAILS TO MAINTAIN ALT AS ASSIGNED BY ATC.
Narrative: CLRED TO 5000 FT FROM 3000 FT DIRECT TO DEST. WAS HAND FLYING. ACFT WAS VERY LIGHT AND WX COOL, AND ACFT STARTED TO EXCEED 250 KTS. IN MY CONCERN FOR RAISING THE NOSE AND PULLING THE THROTTLES BACK, I SAW I WAS GOING THROUGH 5000 FT. I ACTUALLY HIT ABOUT 5400 FT MAX AS I STARTED BACK DOWN.
