Narrative:
Pushback clearance at san. Requested push clearance as per company page 10-X, from gate ab in san diego. ATC informed us that they didn't control the ramp and that the push was at our discretion. Upon completion of the push, which can only be done by pushing onto taxiway B, ground control said that we required permission to push onto taxiway B. We had already asked for his permission to push as previously stated. No mention of this procedure is made on the company page. Ground control said that push crews have been briefed on the procedure, but no mention was made to us regarding this requirement by the ground crew. If this procedure were written on the airport page as it is in miami it would have not been a problem. If we don't know about it, we can't comply with it. Also, ATC dropped the ball by not recognizing the fact that we stated that we were requesting a push from a gate that required us to be positioned onto taxiway B. Crews are advised by the company page to call ground before the push, there is no requirement stated to get clearance onto a taxiway.
