Narrative:
Near midair collision. Cleared for takeoff by sjo tower runway 25. They advised of traffic in a left pattern for airport. We had a TCASII target at 2500 ft AGL on a downwind for runway 25. WX was marginal, 800-1000 ft, ceiling ragged. Took off and at approximately 500 ft, received a TCASII advisory 'monitor vertical speed,' still configured at flaps 15 degrees, V2 +10 KTS, approximately 4000 FPM climb rate. Almost immediate after initial advisory, it changed to a climb RA. Vsi green band was at 6000 FPM and TCASII indicated target was in front of us and 500 ft below. We increased our rate of climb and passed over target by 300 ft. Informed tower of situation and they repeated same traffic information. The traffic we passed over apparently was crossing the VOR sbound as we took off.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A300 CREW HAD A TCASII RA AND NMAC ON DEP AT MROC.
Narrative: NMAC. CLRED FOR TKOF BY SJO TWR RWY 25. THEY ADVISED OF TFC IN A L PATTERN FOR ARPT. WE HAD A TCASII TARGET AT 2500 FT AGL ON A DOWNWIND FOR RWY 25. WX WAS MARGINAL, 800-1000 FT, CEILING RAGGED. TOOK OFF AND AT APPROX 500 FT, RECEIVED A TCASII ADVISORY 'MONITOR VERT SPD,' STILL CONFIGURED AT FLAPS 15 DEGS, V2 +10 KTS, APPROX 4000 FPM CLB RATE. ALMOST IMMEDIATE AFTER INITIAL ADVISORY, IT CHANGED TO A CLB RA. VSI GREEN BAND WAS AT 6000 FPM AND TCASII INDICATED TARGET WAS IN FRONT OF US AND 500 FT BELOW. WE INCREASED OUR RATE OF CLB AND PASSED OVER TARGET BY 300 FT. INFORMED TWR OF SIT AND THEY REPEATED SAME TFC INFO. THE TFC WE PASSED OVER APPARENTLY WAS XING THE VOR SBOUND AS WE TOOK OFF.
