Narrative:
Shortly after passing 'scoon' eastbound, encountered unexpected moderate turbulence. With autoplt engaged, aircraft descended approximately 400 ft from assigned altitude of 40340. Company meteorology was called prior to departure and stated previously reported turbulence information was hours old, and turbulence was no longer in the departure area. PIREPS were requested, if they later became available, or any reports or turbulence along our route. About 20 mins prior to scoon, a report of light turbulence at scoon at FL330 was received from flight control reported about an hour before by a company aircraft. The moderate turbulence was not forecast.

Title: AN LA1011 PACIFIC FLT EXPERIENCES UNFORECAST TURB AND LOSES 400 FT IN ALT WHILE ON AUTOPLT NEAR SCOON INTXN. PACIFIC CTL REGION OF ZOA, CA.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER PASSING 'SCOON' EBOUND, ENCOUNTERED UNEXPECTED MODERATE TURB. WITH AUTOPLT ENGAGED, ACFT DSNDED APPROX 400 FT FROM ASSIGNED ALT OF 40340. COMPANY METEOROLOGY WAS CALLED PRIOR TO DEP AND STATED PREVIOUSLY RPTED TURB INFO WAS HRS OLD, AND TURB WAS NO LONGER IN THE DEP AREA. PIREPS WERE REQUESTED, IF THEY LATER BECAME AVAILABLE, OR ANY RPTS OR TURB ALONG OUR RTE. ABOUT 20 MINS PRIOR TO SCOON, A RPT OF LIGHT TURB AT SCOON AT FL330 WAS RECEIVED FROM FLT CTL RPTED ABOUT AN HR BEFORE BY A COMPANY ACFT. THE MODERATE TURB WAS NOT FORECAST.
