Narrative:

An FAA air carrier inspector was giving me a route check from ZZZ-phx. I'd checked the aircraft logbook for open write-ups. It appeared that all corrective actions were properly noted for any previous write-ups. The inspector showed me a couple of pages where an additional inspection was required in addition to the corrective action taken (known as an rii inspection) the rii type of inspection is not addressed in the flight operations manual, but is in the maintenance operations manual. As the aircraft was not technically airworthy and this fact was brought to my attention, I made a logbook entry concerning the status of the rii, such that the issue would be resolved before the aircraft would proceed further. The inspector was very familiar with our airline's maintenance procedures in that he had worked for our airline a few yrs before.
