Narrative:
Citation vii departed pittsfield at XA15 on nov/xa/99 on runway 32. A citation vii requires at least over 4000 ft of runway to make a safe takeoff. Runway 32 at pittsfield is 3496 ft long. The citation which had 4 passenger, luggage and at least 533 gallons of fuel on board, nearly went off the end of the runway. The pittsfield airport has runway 26 which is 5001 ft long, which should have been used instead. The pilots were extremely careless in their departure.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A CESSNA CITATION 650, ON A CHARTER FLT, ALMOST RUN OFF THE END OF THE RWY WHEN TAKING OFF DUE TO USING A RWY LENGTH SHORTER THAN THAT REQUIRED BY ACFT PERFORMANCE DATA AND THAT REQUIRED UNDER SECTION 135 OF THE FARS, WHICH IS EVEN GREATER.
Narrative: CITATION VII DEPARTED PITTSFIELD AT XA15 ON NOV/XA/99 ON RWY 32. A CITATION VII REQUIRES AT LEAST OVER 4000 FT OF RWY TO MAKE A SAFE TKOF. RWY 32 AT PITTSFIELD IS 3496 FT LONG. THE CITATION WHICH HAD 4 PAX, LUGGAGE AND AT LEAST 533 GALLONS OF FUEL ON BOARD, NEARLY WENT OFF THE END OF THE RWY. THE PITTSFIELD ARPT HAS RWY 26 WHICH IS 5001 FT LONG, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED INSTEAD. THE PLTS WERE EXTREMELY CARELESS IN THEIR DEP.
