Narrative:
Autoplt failed to capture assigned altitude on descent from FL330 to FL240. I immediately initiated recovery but descended 300-400 ft below FL240. No conflict was noted and ATC did not mention it to us.

Title: AN L1011 FLC RPT ON AN ALT OVERSHOOT THAT OCCURRED WHEN THE AUTOPLT'S ALT CAPTURE FAILED TO LEVEL THE ACFT AT FL240 WHILE DSNDING 50 MI NE OF JFK, NY.
Narrative: AUTOPLT FAILED TO CAPTURE ASSIGNED ALT ON DSCNT FROM FL330 TO FL240. I IMMEDIATELY INITIATED RECOVERY BUT DSNDED 300-400 FT BELOW FL240. NO CONFLICT WAS NOTED AND ATC DID NOT MENTION IT TO US.
