Narrative:
On approach vectors heading south (180 degrees) atl TCA. Controller advised he would vector our aircraft slightly through the final for runway 26R. Several other xmissions were made and answered by other aircraft. We did not hear our call sign until asked if we were turning and if we had aircraft slightly to our left ahead. We started the turn to the right and reintercepted the final from the south. We were asked in the turn if we had visual contact with the traffic to our left which we affirmed. We were cleared for the visual approach after accelerating to close the gap between aircraft ahead. Landing was uneventful. Once given the vector through the final, it would have helped to be confirmed with a second call (2 calls) for a turn to the final approach course in the event xmissions are blocked. Supplemental information from acn 456340: several xmissions occurred (one with blocked call sign to which another aircraft responded). Controller issued directions to other aircraft then asked if we were turning.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757-200 FLC PERFORMS A DELAYED TURN BACK TO THE RWY 26R LOC WHEN COM IS INTERRUPTED WITH APCH CTLR BY A SIMULTANEOUS XMISSION E OF ATL, GA.
Narrative: ON APCH VECTORS HDG S (180 DEGS) ATL TCA. CTLR ADVISED HE WOULD VECTOR OUR ACFT SLIGHTLY THROUGH THE FINAL FOR RWY 26R. SEVERAL OTHER XMISSIONS WERE MADE AND ANSWERED BY OTHER ACFT. WE DID NOT HEAR OUR CALL SIGN UNTIL ASKED IF WE WERE TURNING AND IF WE HAD ACFT SLIGHTLY TO OUR L AHEAD. WE STARTED THE TURN TO THE R AND REINTERCEPTED THE FINAL FROM THE S. WE WERE ASKED IN THE TURN IF WE HAD VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE TFC TO OUR L WHICH WE AFFIRMED. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH AFTER ACCELERATING TO CLOSE THE GAP BTWN ACFT AHEAD. LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. ONCE GIVEN THE VECTOR THROUGH THE FINAL, IT WOULD HAVE HELPED TO BE CONFIRMED WITH A SECOND CALL (2 CALLS) FOR A TURN TO THE FINAL APCH COURSE IN THE EVENT XMISSIONS ARE BLOCKED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 456340: SEVERAL XMISSIONS OCCURRED (ONE WITH BLOCKED CALL SIGN TO WHICH ANOTHER ACFT RESPONDED). CTLR ISSUED DIRECTIONS TO OTHER ACFT THEN ASKED IF WE WERE TURNING.
