Narrative:

Severe turbulence encountered 80-120 NM northwest of jvl VOR. We were descending from FL250 to FL190. Airspeed was 290 KTS +/-30 KTS. Seat belt sign was on. All passenger and crew were in seats and belted in. No injuries were observed or reported. ATC was immediately advised and we continued descent to 17000 ft to get out of turbulence area. ATC had reported only light chop upon check-in. Flight plan listed 2 for turbulence index on route. Departing and arriving ATIS had no reference to en route turbulence. SIGMET for southern il and in called for moderate chop, south of our area. After landing debriefed ramp tower, dispatch and maintenance who performed severe turbulence inspection.

NO INJURIES WERE OBSERVED OR RPTED. ATC WAS IMMEDIATELY ADVISED AND WE CONTINUED DSCNT TO 17000 FT TO GET OUT OF TURB AREA. ATC HAD RPTED ONLY LIGHT CHOP UPON CHK-IN. FLT PLAN LISTED 2 FOR TURB INDEX ON RTE. DEPARTING AND ARRIVING ATIS HAD NO REF TO ENRTE TURB. SIGMET FOR SOUTHERN IL AND IN CALLED FOR MODERATE CHOP, S OF OUR AREA. AFTER LNDG DEBRIEFED RAMP TWR, DISPATCH AND MAINT WHO PERFORMED SEVERE TURB INSPECTION.
